Occasionally the bears or mountain lions cause a bit of a commotion out here in the Reserve when we see them moving through the area.  On September 10, we had an event of even greater magnitude.  We have had a crew working on the roads for several weeks and on the morning of the 10th as they were starting their last day of seal coating, their sprayer unit and truck caught on fire.  We are not certain of the cause; but it would appear that oil from the sprayer tank spilled out and made contact with the propane flames used to heat the oil.  It didn’t take long for the whole unit, including the truck, to become fully engulfed in flames.  The fire department arrived fairly quickly; but there was really nothing they could do to put out the oil fire.  The result was deep burn damage to a section of Lucas Blvd that will have to be totally replaced.  Check out our Facebook page for photos and video of the event.
